The ASIJ Alumni Awards

ASIJ’s diverse and talented alumni community is a meaningful part of what makes our school special. With a 120+ year legacy of graduates embodying character, courage, and compassion as they step out into the world empowered to make a difference, it’s no wonder ASIJ boasts accomplished alumni. Since 2022, ASIJ has presented two annual awards to recognize the impressive efforts of our alumni: the Alumni Impact Award and the Young Alumni Changemaker Award.

The ASIJ Alumni Impact Award

The ASIJ Alumni Impact Award is presented annually to recognize distinguished alumni from the wide and diverse community of ASIJ alumni living around the globe.

2025-26 Recipient: John Samuel ’99

John is the co-founder of Ablr and the author of Don’t Ask the Blind Guy for Directions. His work centers on disability inclusion, digital accessibility, and workplace development. Having navigated significant barriers in education and his career as a person who is blind, John is deeply motivated to dismantle those same obstacles and create equitable opportunities for others.

The ASIJ Young Alumni Changemaker Award

The ASIJ Young Alumni Changemaker Award is presented annually to recognize the outstanding and impactful accomplishments of alumni who graduated in the last 15 years. The award recognizes and honors young alumni who have brought about a significant positive change to a community or institution—for example, through service work or through a role in policy, advocacy, or the nonprofit sector.

2025-26 Recipient: Jasmine Bruinooge ’16

Jasmine is a mental health counselor specializing in somatic therapy. Her professional path is deeply rooted in her personal history, having grown up alongside a family member with mental illness. Today, she is dedicated to expanding resource accessibility and strives to be the advocate and counselor that she and her community lacked growing up.

Nomination and Selection Criteria

Nomination Criteria

1. Any member of the ASIJ community can make nominations. Self-nominations are welcome.
2. Nominations should be submitted through . Only complete forms will be considered.
3. Those who attended ASIJ for more than one semester are considered alumni and are eligible to be nominated.
4. Nominees for the Young Alumni Changemaker Award must have graduated from high school (at ASIJ or another school) during the past 15 years.

Selection Criteria

1. Awards will be given annually to one or more alumni who have exemplified our mission and whose accomplishments fit the award descriptions.
2. Consideration will reflect the diversity of the ASIJ alumni community and the many fields of endeavor, avenues of achievement, and methods of expression represented amongst our alumni.
3. Volunteer service or financial contributions to ASIJ are not considered factors. 
4. Candidates for whom ASIJ does not have contact information or who are not responsive to contact from ASIJ may be removed from consideration.
5. Current members of the ASIJ Alumni Council are not eligible for consideration.
